Cadillac XT6 2020-2023: The Parts That Actually Wear Out

Cadillac XT6 2020-2023: The Parts That Actually Wear Out - GM Parts Club

The XT6 1st Gen ran from 2020-2023 and is three-row Cadillac. After enough of these come across the parts counter you start to see the same short list of components over and over. Here is what owners of this generation actually end up buying, and what to know before you order.

Ignition and Engine Management

The usual tell is a misfire code that follows the coil when you swap it to another cylinder. Heat is the accelerant on this one, which is why it shows up faster here than up north.

Common parts in this group: spark plugs, ignition coils, camshaft position sensors, crankshaft position sensors, oxygen sensors.

Worth knowing: Plug gap, heat range and electrode material are specified per engine, and GM’s Active Fuel Management and Dynamic Fuel Management engines are sensitive to it.

Drivetrain and Transfer Case

The usual tell is a four wheel drive light that flashes and never engages. Worth checking at the same time you rotate tires, since the wheel is already off.

Common parts in this group: transfer case encoder motors, front differential actuators, u-joints, CV axles, driveshaft center bearings.

Worth knowing: Wheel bearings on modern GM trucks carry the wheel speed sensor in the same assembly, and sensor tolerance affects ABS and stability control.

Heating and Air Conditioning

The usual tell is a clicking or ticking behind the dash when you change temperature. Heat is the accelerant on this one, which is why it shows up faster here than up north.

Common parts in this group: cabin air filters, blower motors, blower motor resistors, A/C compressors, condensers.

Worth knowing: R-1234yf systems on newer GM vehicles use different oils and fittings than older R-134a systems.

Filters and Fluids

The usual tell is an oil life monitor that reaches zero faster than it used to. Heat is the accelerant on this one, which is why it shows up faster here than up north.

Common parts in this group: oil filters, air filters, cabin air filters, fuel filters, transmission filters.

Worth knowing: Dexos1 and dexos2 licensing exists because GM engines have specific requirements, and warranty language references it directly.

Suspension

The usual tell is the body keeps moving after you cross a dip instead of settling once. Catch it early and it is a parts bill. Ignore it and it becomes a parts and labor bill.

Common parts in this group: shocks, struts, control arms, ball joints, sway bar links.

Worth knowing: Vehicles with adaptive or air suspension talk to the module, and non-OEM parts often will not report correctly.

Cooling System

The usual tell is having to top off the surge tank more than once a year. Owners who do mostly short trips see this sooner than the mileage suggests.

Common parts in this group: radiators, water pumps, thermostats, coolant hoses, cooling fans.

Worth knowing: Aftermarket radiators frequently use fewer rows or thinner tanks than the original, which shows up as a heat problem only when you tow.

Before You Order

  • Have the VIN ready. On a XT6 the same model year can carry two or three different engines and several suspension packages.
  • Check the SPID label in the glove box or console for your RPO codes.
  • Front and rear parts are rarely the same number, even when they look identical.
  • If the part is electrical, confirm the fit before you order. Electrical parts are not returnable at any GM dealer, including us.

Genuine GM parts, dealer priced, shipped from Dallas. our Cadillac OEM parts catalog has the full catalog, or search for XT6 parts.
