2017-2024 Cadillac XT5 Parts Guide: What Owners Replace First

The XT5 1st Gen ran from 2017-2024 and is the volume Cadillac crossover. After enough of these come across the parts counter you start to see the same short list of components over and over. Here is what owners of this generation actually end up buying, and what to know before you order.

Drivetrain and Transfer Case

The usual tell is a clunk on the transition from drive to reverse. How the vehicle gets used moves this interval more than the odometer does.

Common parts in this group: transfer case encoder motors, front differential actuators, u-joints, CV axles, driveshaft center bearings.

Worth knowing: CV axle length and spline count vary by ride height package on the same truck.

Suspension

The usual tell is the nose diving noticeably further under braking than it did new. Worth checking at the same time you rotate tires, since the wheel is already off.

Common parts in this group: shocks, struts, control arms, ball joints, sway bar links.

Worth knowing: GM valving is tuned to the specific spring rate and curb weight of your trim, and a generic replacement changes the whole balance.

Body and Exterior

The usual tell is a window that drops into the door or moves crookedly. This is one of the items where a towing or work truck and a commuter diverge sharply.

Common parts in this group: mirrors, door handles, grilles, bumper covers, headlamps.

Worth knowing: Mirrors carry cameras, heaters, turn signals, blind zone modules and puddle lamps, and the wiring connector varies by content level.

Filters and Fluids

The usual tell is a slight hesitation on hard acceleration with a dirty air filter. Catch it early and it is a parts bill. Ignore it and it becomes a parts and labor bill.

Common parts in this group: oil filters, air filters, cabin air filters, fuel filters, transmission filters.

Worth knowing: Dexos1 and dexos2 licensing exists because GM engines have specific requirements, and warranty language references it directly.

Brakes

The usual tell is a pedal that sits lower than it used to, or sinks slowly at a stoplight. Catch it early and it is a parts bill. Ignore it and it becomes a parts and labor bill.

Common parts in this group: brake pads, brake rotors, brake calipers, brake hoses, wheel speed sensors.

Worth knowing: Pad compound changes brake torque, and brake torque is one of the inputs the stability control system assumes it knows.

Glass and Wipers

The usual tell is chattering or streaking that returns within a week of new blades. Worth checking at the same time you rotate tires, since the wheel is already off.

Common parts in this group: wiper blades, wiper transmissions, wiper motors, washer pumps, rain sensors.

Worth knowing: Windshields with acoustic interlayer, HUD or camera brackets are not interchangeable with base glass.

Before You Order

Have the VIN ready. On a XT5 the same model year can carry two or three different engines and several suspension packages.
Check the SPID label in the glove box or console for your RPO codes.
Front and rear parts are rarely the same number, even when they look identical.
