Why We Ask for Your VIN

Why We Ask for Your VIN - GM Parts Club

The VIN is not a formality. Here is exactly what it tells us and which orders genuinely need it.

What the VIN Actually Tells Us

The VIN decodes to the exact build: engine, transmission, axle ratio, suspension package, brake package, emissions configuration and trim. Two trucks with the same year, model and cab can take different parts across half a dozen systems.

Which Orders Need It

Brakes, suspension, cooling, drivetrain, electrical modules, body panels and anything with a connector. Filters and fluids usually do not.

Which Orders Do Not

Wheel locks, most floor mats, universal cargo nets, common filters and most fluids. We check before we ask, and if the part does not need a VIN we ship it.

If You Do Not Want to Send It

You can check the box at checkout saying you are comfortable shipping without a VIN. Understand that without one, the standard return policy does not apply and a restocking fee may. We would rather confirm.

We are a factory GM dealer, not a reseller, so what you order is the same part the service drive installs. Browse our Cadillac OEM parts catalog or search for GM parts.
