Tools Worth Owning Before You Start

Tools Worth Owning Before You Start - GM Parts Club

A short, honest list for someone doing their own GM maintenance.

The Short List

A torque wrench you trust, a decent 3/8 and 1/2 drive socket set, jack stands rated well above your vehicle, a breaker bar, and a code reader that shows live data rather than just codes.

The Torque Wrench Point

Most DIY failures on modern GM vehicles are fastener failures. Aluminum components and torque-to-yield bolts do not forgive guessing.

What to Skip

Specialty tools you will use once. Most parts stores and some shops loan them.

Shops and fleets can set up wholesale pricing at gmpartsclub.com/wholesale. Everyone else can start at our GMC OEM parts catalog or search for GM parts.
