New Year Maintenance Reset for Your GM Vehicle (2026)

New Year Maintenance Reset for Your GM Vehicle (2026) - GM Parts Club

January is the cleanest place on the calendar to build a maintenance plan, because everything is either overdue or it is not. Here is what to actually look at, using a 2019-2026 Cadillac XT4 as the example.

Filters and Fluids

Watch for a diesel that derates or throws a fuel pressure code on a neglected filter. Follow the oil life monitor rather than a fixed mileage. Engine air filter every 30,000 to 45,000 miles. Transmission service intervals vary widely by transmission and by whether you tow.

Dexos1 and dexos2 licensing exists because GM engines have specific requirements, and warranty language references it directly.

Electrical and Charging

Watch for the auto stop-start feature quietly deactivating itself. Batteries in Texas heat routinely give up between three and five years. Test annually after year three, before the first cold snap.

Many recent GM vehicles need the new battery registered to the module or the charging system will keep undercharging it.

Brakes

Watch for a pedal that sits lower than it used to, or sinks slowly at a stoplight. Inspect at every tire rotation. Most GM trucks and SUVs go 30,000 to 60,000 miles on front pads depending on how they are used, and towing cuts that hard.

Pad compound changes brake torque, and brake torque is one of the inputs the stability control system assumes it knows.

The Short Checklist

  • Oil filters: Engine size and emissions equipment change the filter, and diesel filter kits in particular are not interchangeable across model years.
  • Batteries: Vehicles with stop-start often use two batteries. Confirm which one you are replacing before ordering.
  • Brake pads: Front and rear pads are almost never the same part, and heavy duty, tow and performance brake packages use different calipers and rotors than the base vehicle.

Shops and fleets can set up wholesale pricing at gmpartsclub.com/wholesale. Everyone else can start at our Cadillac OEM parts catalog or search for XT4 parts.
