Core Charges Explained - GM Parts Club

Which parts carry a core, why, and how to get your money back.

What a Core Is

A refundable deposit on a rebuildable component. Alternators, starters, calipers, steering racks and some injectors commonly carry one.

Getting the Refund

Return the old unit, drained and in the box the new part shipped in, within the stated window. Damage or missing pieces can reduce the refund.

Why It Exists

Rebuildable cores have real value, and the core system is what keeps remanufactured parts available at all.

Shops and fleets can set up wholesale pricing at gmpartsclub.com/wholesale. Everyone else can start at our Chevrolet OEM parts catalog or search for GM parts.
