Most Replaced Parts on the K2XX Chevrolet Suburban (2015-2020)

Most Replaced Parts on the K2XX Chevrolet Suburban (2015-2020) - GM Parts Club

The Suburban K2XX ran from 2015-2020 and is the long-wheelbase workhorse. After enough of these come across the parts counter you start to see the same short list of components over and over. Here is what owners of this generation actually end up buying, and what to know before you order.

Cooling System

The usual tell is having to top off the surge tank more than once a year. Owners who do mostly short trips see this sooner than the mileage suggests.

Common parts in this group: radiators, water pumps, thermostats, coolant hoses, cooling fans.

Worth knowing: Aftermarket radiators frequently use fewer rows or thinner tanks than the original, which shows up as a heat problem only when you tow.

Body and Exterior

The usual tell is a hazy or yellowed headlamp lens that no longer projects a sharp cutoff. Mileage is a rough guide here. Load, heat and road surface matter more.

Common parts in this group: mirrors, door handles, grilles, bumper covers, headlamps.

Worth knowing: Mirrors carry cameras, heaters, turn signals, blind zone modules and puddle lamps, and the wiring connector varies by content level.

Drivetrain and Transfer Case

The usual tell is vibration that appears above 55 mph and grows with speed. Worth checking at the same time you rotate tires, since the wheel is already off.

Common parts in this group: transfer case encoder motors, front differential actuators, u-joints, CV axles, driveshaft center bearings.

Worth knowing: Wheel bearings on modern GM trucks carry the wheel speed sensor in the same assembly, and sensor tolerance affects ABS and stability control.

Interior

The usual tell is carpet that stays damp under a worn factory mat. Owners who do mostly short trips see this sooner than the mileage suggests.

Common parts in this group: floor liners, carpet floor mats, console lids, seat covers, shift knobs.

Worth knowing: Genuine trim matches grain and color code, which universal parts never quite do.

Suspension

The usual tell is a clunk over expansion joints that you feel in the floor more than you hear. Worth checking at the same time you rotate tires, since the wheel is already off.

Common parts in this group: shocks, struts, control arms, ball joints, sway bar links.

Worth knowing: Vehicles with adaptive or air suspension talk to the module, and non-OEM parts often will not report correctly.

Electrical and Charging

The usual tell is the auto stop-start feature quietly deactivating itself. How the vehicle gets used moves this interval more than the odometer does.

Common parts in this group: batteries, battery cables, alternators, starters, body control modules.

Worth knowing: GM’s battery management system is calibrated to a specific battery chemistry, group size and reserve capacity.

Before You Order

  • Have the VIN ready. On a Suburban the same model year can carry two or three different engines and several suspension packages.
  • Check the SPID label in the glove box or console for your RPO codes.
  • Front and rear parts are rarely the same number, even when they look identical.
  • If the part is electrical, confirm the fit before you order. Electrical parts are not returnable at any GM dealer, including us.

We have been selling GM parts online since 2009 and out of the Dallas store since 1956. Start with our Chevrolet OEM parts catalog, or search for Suburban parts.
