2015-2020 Chevrolet Tahoe Parts Guide: What Owners Replace First

2015-2020 Chevrolet Tahoe Parts Guide: What Owners Replace First - GM Parts Club

The Tahoe K2XX ran from 2015-2020 and is solid rear axle, leaf sprung. After enough of these come across the parts counter you start to see the same short list of components over and over. Here is what owners of this generation actually end up buying, and what to know before you order.

Cooling System

The usual tell is having to top off the surge tank more than once a year. The number in the manual assumes conditions most people in North Texas do not have.

Common parts in this group: radiators, water pumps, thermostats, coolant hoses, cooling fans.

Worth knowing: Surge tanks and caps are pressure-rated to the specific system, and a wrong cap is a slow way to cook a head gasket.

Electrical and Charging

The usual tell is warning lights that appear in clusters and then clear themselves. How the vehicle gets used moves this interval more than the odometer does.

Common parts in this group: batteries, battery cables, alternators, starters, body control modules.

Worth knowing: Many recent GM vehicles need the new battery registered to the module or the charging system will keep undercharging it.

Drivetrain and Transfer Case

The usual tell is a clunk on the transition from drive to reverse. This is one of the items where a towing or work truck and a commuter diverge sharply.

Common parts in this group: transfer case encoder motors, front differential actuators, u-joints, CV axles, driveshaft center bearings.

Worth knowing: Wheel bearings on modern GM trucks carry the wheel speed sensor in the same assembly, and sensor tolerance affects ABS and stability control.

Filters and Fluids

The usual tell is an oil life monitor that reaches zero faster than it used to. Mileage is a rough guide here. Load, heat and road surface matter more.

Common parts in this group: oil filters, air filters, cabin air filters, fuel filters, transmission filters.

Worth knowing: Dexos1 and dexos2 licensing exists because GM engines have specific requirements, and warranty language references it directly.

Ignition and Engine Management

The usual tell is a check engine light that flashes under load, which means raw fuel is going into the converter. Mileage is a rough guide here. Load, heat and road surface matter more.

Common parts in this group: spark plugs, ignition coils, camshaft position sensors, crankshaft position sensors, oxygen sensors.

Worth knowing: Oxygen sensor response time is what the fuel trim strategy is built around; slow generic sensors cause driveability problems that never set a clean code.

Interior

The usual tell is a sun visor that will not stay up. Mileage is a rough guide here. Load, heat and road surface matter more.

Common parts in this group: floor liners, carpet floor mats, console lids, seat covers, shift knobs.

Worth knowing: GM Accessories liners are laser-measured to the specific floor pan and retain the factory anchor posts, which is a safety item.

Before You Order

  • Have the VIN ready. On a Tahoe the same model year can carry two or three different engines and several suspension packages.
  • Check the SPID label in the glove box or console for your RPO codes.
  • Front and rear parts are rarely the same number, even when they look identical.
  • If the part is electrical, confirm the fit before you order. Electrical parts are not returnable at any GM dealer, including us.

Ordering is easiest if you have the VIN in front of you. Head to our Chevrolet OEM parts catalog to shop by vehicle, or search for Tahoe parts to go straight to a part.
