Cadillac CT4 2020-2023: The Parts That Actually Wear Out

Cadillac CT4 2020-2023: The Parts That Actually Wear Out - GM Parts Club

The CT4 1st Gen ran from 2020-2023 and is Alpha platform sedan, including Blackwing. After enough of these come across the parts counter you start to see the same short list of components over and over. Here is what owners of this generation actually end up buying, and what to know before you order.

Brakes

The usual tell is a grinding noise, which means the friction material is already gone. The number in the manual assumes conditions most people in North Texas do not have.

Common parts in this group: brake pads, brake rotors, brake calipers, brake hoses, wheel speed sensors.

Worth knowing: Pad compound changes brake torque, and brake torque is one of the inputs the stability control system assumes it knows.

Electrical and Charging

The usual tell is a slow crank on the first cold morning of the year. Heat is the accelerant on this one, which is why it shows up faster here than up north.

Common parts in this group: batteries, battery cables, alternators, starters, body control modules.

Worth knowing: GM’s battery management system is calibrated to a specific battery chemistry, group size and reserve capacity.

Suspension

The usual tell is uneven or feathered tire wear on the inside or outside shoulder. The number in the manual assumes conditions most people in North Texas do not have.

Common parts in this group: shocks, struts, control arms, ball joints, sway bar links.

Worth knowing: Ball joint and control arm geometry sets your alignment range, and an out-of-spec part can make a correct alignment impossible.

Ignition and Engine Management

The usual tell is a rough idle that smooths out above 2,000 rpm. Heat is the accelerant on this one, which is why it shows up faster here than up north.

Common parts in this group: spark plugs, ignition coils, camshaft position sensors, crankshaft position sensors, oxygen sensors.

Worth knowing: Oxygen sensor response time is what the fuel trim strategy is built around; slow generic sensors cause driveability problems that never set a clean code.

Glass and Wipers

The usual tell is a rain sensing system that triggers late or not at all. Owners who do mostly short trips see this sooner than the mileage suggests.

Common parts in this group: wiper blades, wiper transmissions, wiper motors, washer pumps, rain sensors.

Worth knowing: Windshields with acoustic interlayer, HUD or camera brackets are not interchangeable with base glass.

Interior

The usual tell is a sun visor that will not stay up. The number in the manual assumes conditions most people in North Texas do not have.

Common parts in this group: floor liners, carpet floor mats, console lids, seat covers, shift knobs.

Worth knowing: Genuine trim matches grain and color code, which universal parts never quite do.

Before You Order

  • Have the VIN ready. On a CT4 the same model year can carry two or three different engines and several suspension packages.
  • Check the SPID label in the glove box or console for your RPO codes.
  • Front and rear parts are rarely the same number, even when they look identical.
  • If the part is electrical, confirm the fit before you order. Electrical parts are not returnable at any GM dealer, including us.

Everything here is available as a genuine GM part through our Cadillac OEM parts catalog. If you would rather search directly, search for CT4 parts.
