What dexos Is
GM’s oil specification and licensing program. dexos1 covers most gasoline engines, dexos2 covers diesels, with generation revisions over time.
Why It Matters
GM warranty language references the specification directly. An oil that meets it carries the license mark on the bottle.
Viscosity Still Matters
The specification and the viscosity are two separate requirements. Both have to be right.
