Most Replaced Parts on the K2XX HD Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD (2015-2019) - GM Parts Club

The Silverado 3500HD K2XX ran from 2015-2019 and is dually and cab-chassis heavy. After enough of these come across the parts counter you start to see the same short list of components over and over. Here is what owners of this generation actually end up buying, and what to know before you order.

Ignition and Engine Management

The usual tell is a rough idle that smooths out above 2,000 rpm. Mileage is a rough guide here. Load, heat and road surface matter more.

Common parts in this group: spark plugs, ignition coils, camshaft position sensors, crankshaft position sensors, oxygen sensors.

Worth knowing: Oxygen sensor response time is what the fuel trim strategy is built around; slow generic sensors cause driveability problems that never set a clean code.

Body and Exterior

The usual tell is a hazy or yellowed headlamp lens that no longer projects a sharp cutoff. Heat is the accelerant on this one, which is why it shows up faster here than up north.

Common parts in this group: mirrors, door handles, grilles, bumper covers, headlamps.

Worth knowing: Body panels and lamps have to match the vehicle’s specific mounting points and, on lamps, the exact photometric pattern that was certified.

Filters and Fluids

The usual tell is a slight hesitation on hard acceleration with a dirty air filter. Owners who do mostly short trips see this sooner than the mileage suggests.

Common parts in this group: oil filters, air filters, cabin air filters, fuel filters, transmission filters.

Worth knowing: Dexos1 and dexos2 licensing exists because GM engines have specific requirements, and warranty language references it directly.

Exhaust and Emissions

The usual tell is an exhaust tick on cold start that quiets as the manifold expands. How the vehicle gets used moves this interval more than the odometer does.

Common parts in this group: catalytic converters, oxygen sensors, DEF injectors, diesel particulate filters, EVAP purge valves.

Worth knowing: Catalytic converters are emissions-certified parts, and substrate loading is what the downstream oxygen sensor is judging.

Heating and Air Conditioning

The usual tell is vents that will not switch from defrost to floor. Owners who do mostly short trips see this sooner than the mileage suggests.

Common parts in this group: cabin air filters, blower motors, blower motor resistors, A/C compressors, condensers.

Worth knowing: R-1234yf systems on newer GM vehicles use different oils and fittings than older R-134a systems.

Brakes

The usual tell is uneven pad thickness side to side when you pull a wheel. Worth checking at the same time you rotate tires, since the wheel is already off.

Common parts in this group: brake pads, brake rotors, brake calipers, brake hoses, wheel speed sensors.

Worth knowing: Aftermarket rotors are frequently thinner at the same nominal diameter, which changes heat capacity and warp behavior.

Before You Order

  • Have the VIN ready. On a Silverado 3500HD the same model year can carry two or three different engines and several suspension packages.
  • Check the SPID label in the glove box or console for your RPO codes.
  • Front and rear parts are rarely the same number, even when they look identical.
  • If the part is electrical, confirm the fit before you order. Electrical parts are not returnable at any GM dealer, including us.

Ordering is easiest if you have the VIN in front of you. Head to our Chevrolet OEM parts catalog to shop by vehicle, or search for Silverado 3500HD parts to go straight to a part.
