We sell genuine GM parts, so take this for what it is worth, but the suspension conversation deserves a straight answer rather than a sales pitch.
What Is Actually Different
- GM valving is tuned to the specific spring rate and curb weight of your trim, and a generic replacement changes the whole balance.
- Vehicles with adaptive or air suspension talk to the module, and non-OEM parts often will not report correctly.
- Ball joint and control arm geometry sets your alignment range, and an out-of-spec part can make a correct alignment impossible.

The Symptoms People Chase
Before you buy anything, confirm the problem. The usual signs are the body keeps moving after you cross a dip instead of settling once, a clunk over expansion joints that you feel in the floor more than you hear, uneven or feathered tire wear on the inside or outside shoulder.
Interval and Expectations
Shocks and struts are wear items. Plan on inspection at 50,000 miles and replacement somewhere between 60,000 and 100,000 depending on road quality and load.
Ordering
Trim and package content matters enormously here. Off-road packages, air ride and adaptive or magnetic damping all use different parts than the base vehicle wearing the same model name. Have the VIN. It resolves nearly every fitment question in one step.
We have been selling GM parts online since 2009 and out of the Dallas store since 1956. Start with our GMC OEM parts catalog, or search for shocks.
