Cold Start Readiness for Your 2021-2025 GMC Yukon XL

Cold Start Readiness for Your 2021-2025 GMC Yukon XL - GM Parts Club

Battery testing before the first freeze, not after. Applied to a 2021-2025 Yukon XL, here is what that looks like.

Drivetrain and Transfer Case

Watch for vibration that appears above 55 mph and grows with speed. Transfer case and differential fluid on a schedule that tightens sharply if you tow or run in dust. Wheel bearings are replaced on noise, not on mileage.

Body and Exterior

Watch for a window that drops into the door or moves crookedly. Not a scheduled item. These are damage and failure replacements.

Heating and Air Conditioning

Watch for vents that will not switch from defrost to floor. Cabin air filter every 12,000 to 15,000 miles, or annually. In North Texas with construction dust and cedar season, annually is the honest number.

Cooling System

Watch for having to top off the surge tank more than once a year. GM’s long-life coolant is generally rated for 5 years or 150,000 miles on the first fill and 5 years or 100,000 miles after that. Hoses and the surge tank should be inspected annually once past 80,000 miles.

The Short Version

  • Transfer case encoder motors: Ride height, axle ratio and locking differential content all change these numbers.
  • Mirrors: Trim level changes almost every exterior part. Take a photo of the connector on the part you are replacing before you order.
  • Cabin air filters: Rear climate content, heated and cooled seats, and tri-zone systems all change the parts list.
  • Radiators: Engine, tow package and rear-A/C content all change the radiator and hose part numbers. Have the VIN ready.

We are a factory GM dealer, not a reseller, so what you order is the same part the service drive installs. Browse our GMC OEM parts catalog or search for Yukon XL parts.
