We sell genuine GM parts, so take this for what it is worth, but the cooling system conversation deserves a straight answer rather than a sales pitch.
What Is Actually Different
- GM cooling systems are DEX-COOL based and the seal and gasket materials are chosen for that chemistry.
- Surge tanks and caps are pressure-rated to the specific system, and a wrong cap is a slow way to cook a head gasket.
- Aftermarket radiators frequently use fewer rows or thinner tanks than the original, which shows up as a heat problem only when you tow.

The Symptoms People Chase
Before you buy anything, confirm the problem. The usual signs are a temperature gauge that climbs in traffic and drops back on the highway, the sweet smell of coolant after shutdown with no visible puddle, crusty orange residue around a hose clamp or the surge tank seam.
Interval and Expectations
GM’s long-life coolant is generally rated for 5 years or 150,000 miles on the first fill and 5 years or 100,000 miles after that. Hoses and the surge tank should be inspected annually once past 80,000 miles.
Ordering
Engine, tow package and rear-A/C content all change the radiator and hose part numbers. Have the VIN ready. Have the VIN. It resolves nearly every fitment question in one step.
Everything here is available as a genuine GM part through our Cadillac OEM parts catalog. If you would rather search directly, search for radiators.
