Halloween Night Driving: Lighting and Visibility (2025)

Halloween Night Driving: Lighting and Visibility (2025) - GM Parts Club

Halloween is the single worst night of the year for pedestrian visibility, and most of it happens at dusk in residential streets. Here is what to actually look at, using a 2019-2025 GMC Sierra 1500 as the example.

Body and Exterior

Watch for a window that drops into the door or moves crookedly. Not a scheduled item. These are damage and failure replacements.

Factory paint codes only work if the substrate and primer are the same.

Glass and Wipers

Watch for wipers that park in the wrong position. Blades every six to twelve months. In North Texas, summer heat kills blades faster than winter does.

GM wiper arms and blades are matched to the specific windshield curvature, and length is not the only variable.

Sensors, Cameras and Driver Assistance

Watch for a TPMS light that will not clear after a tire rotation. TPMS sensor batteries typically last seven to ten years and are commonly replaced as a set during a tire change.

These are calibrated devices, and the calibration lives in the module that expects a specific sensor.

The Short Checklist

  • Mirrors: Trim level changes almost every exterior part. Take a photo of the connector on the part you are replacing before you order.
  • Wiper blades: Driver and passenger blades are frequently different lengths on the same vehicle.
  • Park assist sensors: Painted park assist sensors are ordered in primer and painted to your code. Confirm your paint code before ordering.
