Headlamps, Bulbs and the Shorter Days (2025) - GM Parts Club

By the end of October you are driving in the dark on both ends of the commute. Here is what to actually look at, using a 2015-2022 GMC Canyon as the example.

Body and Exterior

Watch for a window that drops into the door or moves crookedly. Not a scheduled item. These are damage and failure replacements.

Factory paint codes only work if the substrate and primer are the same.

Sensors, Cameras and Driver Assistance

Watch for a TPMS light that will not clear after a tire rotation. TPMS sensor batteries typically last seven to ten years and are commonly replaced as a set during a tire change.

TPMS sensors have to match the protocol and frequency the receiver expects.

Glass and Wipers

Watch for a rain sensing system that triggers late or not at all. Blades every six to twelve months. In North Texas, summer heat kills blades faster than winter does.

Windshields with acoustic interlayer, HUD or camera brackets are not interchangeable with base glass.

The Short Checklist

  • Mirrors: Trim level changes almost every exterior part. Take a photo of the connector on the part you are replacing before you order.
  • Park assist sensors: Painted park assist sensors are ordered in primer and painted to your code. Confirm your paint code before ordering.
  • Wiper blades: Driver and passenger blades are frequently different lengths on the same vehicle.

Ordering is easiest if you have the VIN in front of you. Head to our GMC OEM parts catalog to shop by vehicle, or search for Canyon parts to go straight to a part.
