2013-2022 Buick Encore Parts Guide: What Owners Replace First

The Encore 1st Gen ran from 2013-2022 and is the original small Buick crossover. After enough of these come across the parts counter you start to see the same short list of components over and over. Here is what owners of this generation actually end up buying, and what to know before you order.

Brakes

The usual tell is a pedal that sits lower than it used to, or sinks slowly at a stoplight. The number in the manual assumes conditions most people in North Texas do not have.

Common parts in this group: brake pads, brake rotors, brake calipers, brake hoses, wheel speed sensors.

Worth knowing: Pad compound changes brake torque, and brake torque is one of the inputs the stability control system assumes it knows.

Sensors, Cameras and Driver Assistance

The usual tell is a lane keep or forward collision system that reports as unavailable after a windshield replacement. This is one of the items where a towing or work truck and a commuter diverge sharply.

Common parts in this group: park assist sensors, backup cameras, blind zone modules, front camera modules, radar sensors.

Worth knowing: These are calibrated devices, and the calibration lives in the module that expects a specific sensor.

Exhaust and Emissions

The usual tell is a check engine light that appears after fueling and clears itself. Owners who do mostly short trips see this sooner than the mileage suggests.

Common parts in this group: catalytic converters, oxygen sensors, DEF injectors, diesel particulate filters, EVAP purge valves.

Worth knowing: Catalytic converters are emissions-certified parts, and substrate loading is what the downstream oxygen sensor is judging.

Interior

The usual tell is a sun visor that will not stay up. How the vehicle gets used moves this interval more than the odometer does.

Common parts in this group: floor liners, carpet floor mats, console lids, seat covers, shift knobs.

Worth knowing: GM Accessories liners are laser-measured to the specific floor pan and retain the factory anchor posts, which is a safety item.

Filters and Fluids

The usual tell is a diesel that derates or throws a fuel pressure code on a neglected filter. Worth checking at the same time you rotate tires, since the wheel is already off.

Common parts in this group: oil filters, air filters, cabin air filters, fuel filters, transmission filters.

Worth knowing: Dexos1 and dexos2 licensing exists because GM engines have specific requirements, and warranty language references it directly.

Electrical and Charging

The usual tell is the auto stop-start feature quietly deactivating itself. Catch it early and it is a parts bill. Ignore it and it becomes a parts and labor bill.

Common parts in this group: batteries, battery cables, alternators, starters, body control modules.

Worth knowing: Auxiliary and stop-start systems use AGM batteries, and dropping a flooded battery in is a short path to a repeat failure.

Before You Order

Have the VIN ready. On a Encore the same model year can carry two or three different engines and several suspension packages.
Check the SPID label in the glove box or console for your RPO codes.
Front and rear parts are rarely the same number, even when they look identical.
