Pre-Winter Cooling System Check: Buick Enclave Edition

Pre-Winter Cooling System Check: Buick Enclave Edition - GM Parts Club

Coolant condition, hoses and the surge tank. Applied to a 2018-2024 Enclave, here is what that looks like.

Cooling System

Watch for crusty orange residue around a hose clamp or the surge tank seam. GM’s long-life coolant is generally rated for 5 years or 150,000 miles on the first fill and 5 years or 100,000 miles after that. Hoses and the surge tank should be inspected annually once past 80,000 miles.

Glass and Wipers

Watch for a washer pump you can hear running with nothing coming out. Blades every six to twelve months. In North Texas, summer heat kills blades faster than winter does.

Filters and Fluids

Watch for a slight hesitation on hard acceleration with a dirty air filter. Follow the oil life monitor rather than a fixed mileage. Engine air filter every 30,000 to 45,000 miles. Transmission service intervals vary widely by transmission and by whether you tow.

Exhaust and Emissions

Watch for a check engine light that appears after fueling and clears itself. Not scheduled. Converters are warranted separately under federal emissions rules, so check coverage before you buy.

The Short Version

  • Radiators: Engine, tow package and rear-A/C content all change the radiator and hose part numbers. Have the VIN ready.
  • Wiper blades: Driver and passenger blades are frequently different lengths on the same vehicle.
  • Oil filters: Engine size and emissions equipment change the filter, and diesel filter kits in particular are not interchangeable across model years.
  • Catalytic converters: Emissions equipment varies by state of original sale on some model years.

Ordering is easiest if you have the VIN in front of you. Head to our Buick OEM parts catalog to shop by vehicle, or search for Enclave parts to go straight to a part.
