GMC Yukon XL Suspension Service Guide (2021-2025)

GMC Yukon XL Suspension Service Guide (2021-2025) - GM Parts Club

The suspension system on the 2021-2025 Yukon XL is not complicated, but it is easy to spend money in the wrong place on it. This is the version we give people at the counter.

What You Will Notice First

  • A ride height that sits lower on one corner
  • Uneven or feathered tire wear on the inside or outside shoulder
  • The nose diving noticeably further under braking than it did new
  • A clunk over expansion joints that you feel in the floor more than you hear

None of these are emergencies on day one. All of them get more expensive if you sit on them.

The Parts Involved

  • Shocks.
  • Struts.
  • Control arms.
  • Ball joints.
  • Sway bar links.
  • Coil springs.
  • Leaf springs.
  • Strut mounts.
  • Air ride compressors.

Why the Factory Part Matters Here

  • GM valving is tuned to the specific spring rate and curb weight of your trim, and a generic replacement changes the whole balance.
  • Vehicles with adaptive or air suspension talk to the module, and non-OEM parts often will not report correctly.
  • Ball joint and control arm geometry sets your alignment range, and an out-of-spec part can make a correct alignment impossible.

Service Interval

Shocks and struts are wear items. Plan on inspection at 50,000 miles and replacement somewhere between 60,000 and 100,000 depending on road quality and load.

Ordering Notes

Trim and package content matters enormously here. Off-road packages, air ride and adaptive or magnetic damping all use different parts than the base vehicle wearing the same model name. On the Yukon XL specifically, trim and package content is the thing that trips people up.

Everything here is available as a genuine GM part through our GMC OEM parts catalog. If you would rather search directly, search for shocks.
