By the end of October you are driving in the dark on both ends of the commute. Here is what to actually look at, using a 2013-2022 Buick Encore as the example.
Body and Exterior
Watch for a door handle that pulls with no resistance. Not a scheduled item. These are damage and failure replacements.
Body panels and lamps have to match the vehicle’s specific mounting points and, on lamps, the exact photometric pattern that was certified.
Sensors, Cameras and Driver Assistance
Watch for a lane keep or forward collision system that reports as unavailable after a windshield replacement. TPMS sensor batteries typically last seven to ten years and are commonly replaced as a set during a tire change.
TPMS sensors have to match the protocol and frequency the receiver expects.
Glass and Wipers
Watch for a rain sensing system that triggers late or not at all. Blades every six to twelve months. In North Texas, summer heat kills blades faster than winter does.
Windshields with acoustic interlayer, HUD or camera brackets are not interchangeable with base glass.
The Short Checklist
- Mirrors: Trim level changes almost every exterior part. Take a photo of the connector on the part you are replacing before you order.
- Park assist sensors: Painted park assist sensors are ordered in primer and painted to your code. Confirm your paint code before ordering.
- Wiper blades: Driver and passenger blades are frequently different lengths on the same vehicle.
Ordering is easiest if you have the VIN in front of you. Head to our Buick OEM parts catalog to shop by vehicle, or search for Encore parts to go straight to a part.
