Keeping a 2021-2025 Buick Envision on Schedule

Maintenance on a 2021-2025 Envision is not mysterious, but the intervals in the owner’s manual assume a lot of things about how you drive. Here is a practical version.

Oil and Oil Filter

Follow the oil life monitor rather than a fixed mileage. It is watching engine load, temperature and run time, and it is better at this than a calendar is. Use a dexos licensed oil in the correct viscosity for your engine, and use a GM filter. Dexos1 and dexos2 licensing exists because GM engines have specific requirements, and warranty language references it directly.

Engine Air Filter

Every 30,000 to 45,000 miles for most drivers. Sooner if you spend time on caliche, gravel or construction routes. Shop GM air filters.

Cabin Air Filter

Annually, honestly. It is the cheapest part on this list and the one most people have never changed. The first symptom is reduced airflow, and the second is a smell.

Coolant

GM’s long-life coolant is generally rated for 5 years or 150,000 miles on the first fill and 5 years or 100,000 miles after that. Hoses and the surge tank should be inspected annually once past 80,000 miles. GM cooling systems are DEX-COOL based and the seal and gasket materials are chosen for that chemistry.

Battery

Batteries in Texas heat routinely give up between three and five years. Test annually after year three, before the first cold snap. GM’s battery management system is calibrated to a specific battery chemistry, group size and reserve capacity.

Brakes and Tires

Inspect at every tire rotation. Most GM trucks and SUVs go 30,000 to 60,000 miles on front pads depending on how they are used, and towing cuts that hard. Inspect pads at every rotation. It costs nothing and it is the single best early warning you get.

What Changes the Numbers

Towing. Everything above tightens, especially fluids and brakes.
Short trips. An engine that never fully warms up ages oil faster than highway miles do.
Heat. In North Texas, summer is harder on batteries and coolant than winter is.
Dust and gravel. Air and cabin filters go first.
