2018-2023 Buick Enclave Parts Guide: What Owners Replace First

Electrical and Charging

The usual tell is power windows or seats getting slower over a season. Heat is the accelerant on this one, which is why it shows up faster here than up north.

Common parts in this group: batteries, battery cables, alternators, starters, body control modules.

Worth knowing: Auxiliary and stop-start systems use AGM batteries, and dropping a flooded battery in is a short path to a repeat failure.

Exhaust and Emissions

The usual tell is a P0420 or P0430 efficiency code. Mileage is a rough guide here. Load, heat and road surface matter more.

Common parts in this group: catalytic converters, oxygen sensors, DEF injectors, diesel particulate filters, EVAP purge valves.

Worth knowing: Catalytic converters are emissions-certified parts, and substrate loading is what the downstream oxygen sensor is judging.

Heating and Air Conditioning

The usual tell is air that is cold at highway speed and warm at a stoplight. This is one of the items where a towing or work truck and a commuter diverge sharply.

Common parts in this group: cabin air filters, blower motors, blower motor resistors, A/C compressors, condensers.

Worth knowing: R-1234yf systems on newer GM vehicles use different oils and fittings than older R-134a systems.

Drivetrain and Transfer Case

The usual tell is a clunk on the transition from drive to reverse. Heat is the accelerant on this one, which is why it shows up faster here than up north.

Common parts in this group: transfer case encoder motors, front differential actuators, u-joints, CV axles, driveshaft center bearings.

Worth knowing: Transfer case shift motors and encoders are matched to the specific case, and the module reads their position directly.

Cooling System

The usual tell is the sweet smell of coolant after shutdown with no visible puddle. Worth checking at the same time you rotate tires, since the wheel is already off.

Common parts in this group: radiators, water pumps, thermostats, coolant hoses, cooling fans.

Worth knowing: Surge tanks and caps are pressure-rated to the specific system, and a wrong cap is a slow way to cook a head gasket.

Brakes

The usual tell is a grinding noise, which means the friction material is already gone. Worth checking at the same time you rotate tires, since the wheel is already off.

Common parts in this group: brake pads, brake rotors, brake calipers, brake hoses, wheel speed sensors.

Worth knowing: Pad compound changes brake torque, and brake torque is one of the inputs the stability control system assumes it knows.

Before You Order
