2018-2020 Buick Regal Parts Guide: What Owners Replace First

The Regal 6th Gen ran from 2018-2020 and is Sportback and TourX. After enough of these come across the parts counter you start to see the same short list of components over and over. Here is what owners of this generation actually end up buying, and what to know before you order.

Filters and Fluids

The usual tell is a slight hesitation on hard acceleration with a dirty air filter. How the vehicle gets used moves this interval more than the odometer does.

Common parts in this group: oil filters, air filters, cabin air filters, fuel filters, transmission filters.

Worth knowing: Dexos1 and dexos2 licensing exists because GM engines have specific requirements, and warranty language references it directly.

Glass and Wipers

The usual tell is chattering or streaking that returns within a week of new blades. Heat is the accelerant on this one, which is why it shows up faster here than up north.

Common parts in this group: wiper blades, wiper transmissions, wiper motors, washer pumps, rain sensors.

Worth knowing: GM wiper arms and blades are matched to the specific windshield curvature, and length is not the only variable.

Sensors, Cameras and Driver Assistance

The usual tell is a park assist system that disables itself in cold weather and comes back warm. This is one of the items where a towing or work truck and a commuter diverge sharply.

Common parts in this group: park assist sensors, backup cameras, blind zone modules, front camera modules, radar sensors.

Worth knowing: TPMS sensors have to match the protocol and frequency the receiver expects.

Heating and Air Conditioning

The usual tell is a clicking or ticking behind the dash when you change temperature. The number in the manual assumes conditions most people in North Texas do not have.

Common parts in this group: cabin air filters, blower motors, blower motor resistors, A/C compressors, condensers.

Worth knowing: Blend door actuators are calibrated position devices, and the module learns their travel; generic units frequently will not calibrate.

Ignition and Engine Management

The usual tell is a misfire code that follows the coil when you swap it to another cylinder. Heat is the accelerant on this one, which is why it shows up faster here than up north.

Common parts in this group: spark plugs, ignition coils, camshaft position sensors, crankshaft position sensors, oxygen sensors.

Worth knowing: Plug gap, heat range and electrode material are specified per engine, and GM’s Active Fuel Management and Dynamic Fuel Management engines are sensitive to it.

Exhaust and Emissions

The usual tell is a check engine light that appears after fueling and clears itself. How the vehicle gets used moves this interval more than the odometer does.

Common parts in this group: catalytic converters, oxygen sensors, DEF injectors, diesel particulate filters, EVAP purge valves.

Worth knowing: Diesel aftertreatment parts are tightly integrated with the calibration.

Before You Order

Have the VIN ready. On a Regal the same model year can carry two or three different engines and several suspension packages.
Check the SPID label in the glove box or console for your RPO codes.
Front and rear parts are rarely the same number, even when they look identical.
